The Aliki Edwards Band is a Soul, Funk, R&B cross over band. Full of fun, talented and distinguished musicians.
Aliki
Aliki is the lead singer of our band. She is a pop and soul vocalist who enjoys performing live and the interaction with the audience. Her repertoire is varied, singing covers spanning from the 60's to today's current chart hits.
Aliki has a sultry voice, full of character and expression. She is vocally trained using the SLS technique and her distinctive voice with a full and mellow tone makes her a great performer you can't get enough of.
Aliki has been singing solo and in bands, continuing her passion for singing and performing, while at the same time creating a happy atmosphere that the audience will enjoy and remember.
Deborah
Deborah is the second vocalist in our band. She originally trained as a dancer and singer at Laine Theatre Arts and later went on to sing with function bands and a vocal harmony group around the UK.
Debora enjoys a wide range of music genres and loves the buzz of live music. Some of her favourite artists include Bervely Knight, Ella Fitzgerald and Michael Buble.
Deborah has also been a Musical Theatre teacher at a local dance school but now she feels it's time to take to the stage again to enjoy live performance !
Richard
Richard is our band's lead guitarist. He started learning guitar aged eight, initially playing classical guitar, but then around the late 50’s / early 60’s became interested in the music of the Shadows and other instrumental groups popular at the time. An interest in pop music developed in the 60’s which led to playing in groups supporting a lot of the chart topping acts of the time such as The Hollies, Billy J Kramer, The Searchers etc.
Richard later joined a Showband performing at major venues around the South West and backing cabaret artists as varied as Nookie Bear, Lynsey de Paul and Frankie Vaughan .
A versatile player Richard has played most musical genres .
Derek
Derek plays Tenor and Soprano Saxophones. He started playing Clarinet and switched to Saxophone when playing in local bands in the late 60’s.
He has pretty much covered all genres from Soul to Rock’N Roll and even done a stint in Rolling Stones and Pink Floyd tribute bands.
For years now his interest in Jazz/Blues has overtaken other musical interests and has been his main focus. His style combines a lyrical sensitivity with a straight forward no-nonsense approach to all his playing.
George
George has been playing the bass in bands for the last 25 years both in London and the West Country. He has played
with a series of finalists in 'Stars In Their Eyes' as well as many function and pub rock bands.
George can play in many different styles but has mellowed a bit in recent years, since his Skunk Anansie cover days ! He now finds the soul, funk and rock of AEB more to his musical liking and hopes the audiences do too !!!
Jerry
Jerry is our band's drummer. At 50...something years old playing since he was 8ish, started playing in rock covers bands at 17 and quickly progressed to full time club band playing at least 4 nights a week for many years. Played in an assortment of line ups from heavy metal, country, jazz, big band, funk, Pop etc etc.
His main aim is: ‘To enjoy playing with good musicians and have fun entertaining whoever we are in front of’.
Main kit is: Premier modern series kit in Red moon sparkle with zildjian and custom cymbals. Mapex jazz kit, premier vintage kit and Roland electronic drums. Also play acoustic guitar and various percussion instruments
